Introduction- The peace deal between US and North Korea held in  June 2018, Singapore became historic.

The beginning of the conflict: Japan's Brutal Expansion  - The Brutal Japanese occupation of Korea lasted for 35 years and ended with the defeat of Japan in world war 2. Japan was defeated by two superpower United States of America and Soviet Union (USSR). These two superpowers turned out soon to be occupying forces.

US and North Korea have been in constant conflict since 1950 when Korea was divided into two parts-- North Korea and South Korea. South Korea remained open to the world and at the same time North Korea restricted herself. Due to cold war- theses two superpowers influenced Korea- US influenced south Korea while North Korea remained under the influence of Soviet Union(USSR or Russia).

More Conflicts - The history of fear and provocative actions raises hostility at both sides. Koreans wanted to reunited as division  was forced by respective leadership.

During 1990 US intelligence concluded that North Korea was indulged into Nuclear Programmed. American President Bill Clinton threatened sanctions, airstrikes and it was followed by United Nations.

Agreed Framework - 1994-  Post disintegration of USSR in 1991( Soviet Union) North Korea faced huge economic crisis. A huge famine and food shortage compelled North Korea to be open to the world.  So North Korea sought for a resolution with dialogue. Agreed framework was the first attempt to reduce the tension between two countries and it was decided that North Korea would stop Nuclear Program and in return US would build two light Nuclear reactors on east coast of North with target upto 2003 to supply energy to its population.

This framework failed because America lagged behind in fulfilled its promise.

Further, in 2001 George W. Bush came to power which further declines the relations of two nations. George W Bush was not happy with agreed framework, and he publically called North Korea as axis of evil which included IRAN and IRAQ.

North Korea reacted sharply and George W. Bush's administration kept busy with invading against Taliban in Afganistan. DownloadOurApp

Policy of Strategic Patience- In 2008 Barak Obama inherited these problems. He adopted the policy of Strategic patience, and there was little done.

In 2012, when hunger and malnutrition once again hit the North Korea, leader Kim Jong Un volunteer to halt nuclear weapon program in return of food aid.

North Korea Security was paramount and in 2016 the country did Nuclear Test which evoked sharp criticism. Obama left office and suggested UN Security council to impose sanction against North Korea.

Fire and Fury : A shift in policy change under Trump administration-

Trump did not agree with the Policy of strategic patience and  North Korea rose in the power of technical weapon which had capacity to challenge US. Pyongyang test fires a long-range missile into the Sea of Japan, with some experts stating the missile could potentially reach Alaska.

2017 August - Tension rises in war of words with US over North Korean threat to fire ballistic missiles near US Pacific territory of Guam.

Role of Russia and China- Russia and China both have criticised North Korea's threatening tests as well cautioned America not to put sanctions against North Korea but to have a dialogue.

China announces it plans to implement the UN sanctions against North Korea agreed earlier in the month, banning imports of coal, minerals and sea food.

Singapore's Role and Peace Deal-  Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump's historic meeting in Singapore sought to end a tense decades-old nuclear stand-off.

It came as a win - win Situation for both the parties as North Korea agreed to nuclear disarmament program and America has assured its security. Trump has provided more respect to North Korea more than his predecessors. However, sanctions imposed against North Korea will stay until it demonstrate actions, yet China has somewhat open the sanction against North Korea.
