US Election 2020: Why did Trump lose?

Trump-after-losing

Trump remains one of the most controversial leaders of America and history will not forget him. He was the 45th president of America, and lost to Joe Biden in 2020 for re-election.

Joe Biden has been elected at 46th President of America.

But the question remains, why did Donald Trump lose the election?

Many of his remarks remain controversial and helped his campaign to gain extensive support. His controversies remain trending over social media and clashes between his supporters and protestors added fuel to fire.

Not only that,

Donald Trump has become the third US president in history to be impeached by the House of Representatives, setting up a trial in the Senate that will decide whether he remains in office. He was impeached on 18th December 2019.

The Main Charges were- The president abused his power and he obstructed Congress.
America has two party system Democratic and Republican, and Trump represents Republican. Nearly all Democrats voted for the charges and every Republican against.
In spite of his popularity in his country, he almost ruined the image of America due to his primitive and controversial steps.

As per the recent data, just before Donald Trump lost the election in 2020, a report was published which stated the positive view of America.

America stood at the lowest in 20 years in the image.

‘In many European countries, the percentage of public with a positive view of America is at its lowest for almost 20 years. In the The UK, 41% had a favorable opinion, while in France it was 31%, the lowest since 2003, and in Germany just 26%

There have been various controversies, but what exactly led his image to go beyond repair as well as America?

The first controversial step remained that he called the climate change as ‘an expensive hoax’. Being a president, having access to all the reports and statistic, it takes the ignorance of the highest level to come up at certain conclusions and contributing to such fake news.

Not only that, he rejected Paris Agreement, and even removed a raft of pollution regulations to cut the cost of production of coal, oil and gas.

Another major reason has been – closing the border.  He has spoken against immigration and encouraged the negative sentiments against the immigrants. He has been very bitter against the immigrants from Mexico. The number of migrants detained in the border remains higher during his presidential tenure.

During his tenure, he even took the support of the term ‘fake news’ to attack news stories which disagreed with him. He even branded a couple of news outlets as the enemy of the American people.

Economic Decisions

Constant fight with China

After being elected as a president, he dumped the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) which was a strong economic deal between pacific countries. He spoke against it and as well as NATF – North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico.

Withdrawal from TPP mostly benefitted China.

He worsened the relationship with China as well and imposed hundreds of Billions of dollars of taxes on Chinese products, and China did the same. Internally, US soybean farmers, Tech, and Auto Industries were affected.

China was also affected as the business moved to other countries for manufacturing like Vietnam and Cambodia.

Trump, also almost started war with Iran.

When the United States in April 2019 threatened the world to put a full stop to oil import from Iran or face sanctions, the Indian government also indicated that it would have zero imports after May 2, 2019.

America justified its sanction in the International Court of Justice, however, The United Nation’s highest court ordered on 3rd October 2018 to the United States to lift sanctions on Iran that affect imports of humanitarian goods and products or services liked to the safety of civil aviation.

However, after the court ruling, the US has canceled the treaty of 1955 at which the case was based, and this was not seen as the solution for the conflict between both the nations.

Moreover, the intervention of the International Court of Justice could not stop sanctions. Instead, the United States threatened other nations to follow sanctions as well.

Security of the world during Trump's Tenure.

Donald Trump announced on February 1 ,2019 that the United States will pull out of the three-decade-old intermediate-range Nuclear Forces, which had signed with Russia during the cold war in 1987.

The INF treaty was signed in 1987 between the former US president Ronald and his USSR counterpart Mikhail Gorbachev.

It was an important cold-war era treaty prohibiting development as it banned the use of short and medium-range missiles testing and possession of grounded-launched conventional as well as a nuclear missile of both short (500-1000km)and long ranges (!000-5500km).

However, Russia appears to have been covertly violating it in letter and spirit. The U.S in 2008 expressed concern over the Russian Novato 9M729 missile tests.  In 2014 alleged that Russia was testing a ground-based cruise missile.

As a conclusive note, the world does not want war and appreciates more peace and prosperity for every country. Therefore, the new leadership arrived for a change.
