A Grammy Nominee That Raises Awareness on Benefits of Millet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi features in a special song on millets called Abundance of Millets that was released in June and highlights its health benefits. This nomination for a Grammy Award should come as no surprise!

This unique collaboration, featuring a speech written and delivered by Prime Minister Modi himself, to promote millets cultivation has received widespread acclaim worldwide.

Millet is a Superfood for the World

As hunger is an international problem, the UN has designated this year as the International Year of Millets. As part of this celebration, Falguni Shah and her husband Gaurav Shah collaborated on creating a song to raise awareness of this important grain; their effort was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category at 2024 Grammy awards and features speeches by Prime Minister Modi expounding its advantages.

This song highlights the many benefits of eating millets while simultaneously showing their power to reduce world hunger. It provides examples of millet varieties like pearl (bajra), finger millet (ragi), amaranth (rajgira), foxtail millet, and barley (oat). These grains not only offer excellent nutrition; they're also drought-resistant!

These seeds are packed with antioxidants that reduce signs of aging while strengthening immunity. Plus, they're gluten-free and boast a low glycemic index - perfect for leading a healthy lifestyle!

Falu is well known for her skill to seamlessly combine modern inventive style with classical Indian vocal training to produce exceptional children's album recordings. As the first South Asian woman ever to win a Grammy award and has performed alongside artists like Yo-Yo Ma, A. R. Rahman and Ricky Martin among many others since 2006 (Carnegie Hall's Ambassador of Indian music since 2006) Falu has earned many prestigious accolades throughout her career; not just receiving her Grammy nod.

It Can Solve World Hunger

millets play an essential part of an eco-friendly agriculture system in today's food system, serving as drought-resistant, resilient crops that require less water for growth than their counterparts and have lower fertilizer and pesticide requirements. Their cultivation could potentially provide valuable solutions to global hunger issues.

The International Year of Millets (IYM) aims to raise awareness of millet cultivation's benefits and contributions towards meeting Sustainable Development Goals 2, 3, 5, and 8. It provides an ideal opportunity for farmers, indigenous communities, women, youth, students, and consumers around the world to increase production and consumption of millets.

Millets offer an effective solution for mitigating climate- and geopolitical-driven food shortages, serving as more resilient sources than wheat, rice or maize in harsh climates and being resilient enough to withstand climate-related stresses like droughts and floods. Furthermore, millets provide essential nutrition that could enhance world population health.

Falguni Shah (known by her stage name Falu), together with her husband Gaurav Shah have collaborated on a song to raise awareness of millet's benefits in combatting world hunger. Their song entitled Abundance in Millets has been nominated in the 2024 Grammy Awards Best Global Music Performance category alongside Arooj Aftab's Shadow Forces; Vijay Iyer & Shahzad Ismaily's Feel; Silvana Estrada's Milagro Y Desastre; Bela Fleck Edgar Meyer's Pashto collaboration; Ibrahim Maalouf featuring Cimafunk Tank & Tank and Tank and Tank and The Bangas' Todo Colores.

It is Gluten-Free

Millet is not only gluten-free; it also boasts antioxidants like quercetin, curcumin and ellagic acid which work to combat free radicals that cause oxidative stress in the body. Furthermore, its vitamin B3 or niacin content helps lower cholesterol and triglycerides levels as well as has a low glycemic index rating making it suitable for diabetics to consume.

Song "Abundance in Millets," featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the best global music performance category. Falguni Shah (known by her nickname Falu) and her husband Gaurav Shah created it to promote millets' benefits and gain approval by Prime Minister Modi himself.

Millets are an internationally-cultivated type of grain. Consisting of small seeded grasses such as pearl, foxtail and finger millet varieties, they offer abundant amounts of nutrition - providing staple food in many parts of the world and being climate change resistant crops to boot! Millets boast calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium and selenium content as well as being rich in fiber - an integral element for healthy eating!

Millet can provide significant relief to people suffering from celiac disease and gluten intolerance, particularly wheat and other grains rich in gluten protein. Millets provide an alternative source of fiber, folic acid, iron, magnesium and phosphorus as well as increasing levels of tryptophan in your system and providing more energy than many other grains can offer.

It is an Ancient Grain

As has been widely reported recently, ancient grains are quickly gaining in popularity as food importers search the globe for products to satisfy our western palates. Quinoa and spelt are two such ancient grains we are familiar with, while millet can provide another tasty gluten-free option packed with essential nutrients like iron and magnesium to support healthy blood cells, digestion, muscle function, and nerve connectivity.

Falguni Shah - commonly known by her stage name Falu - collaborated with Prime Minister Modi in June to produce an original song entitled 'Abundance in Millets.' The 'Abundance in Millets' song has since been made available on all streaming platforms and nominated for a Grammy award this year in the best global music performance category. Additionally, this track features part of his speech delivered at Delhi earlier this year during Global Millets Conference.

The lyrics of the song praise Prime Minister Modi for his efforts in promoting millets to reduce world hunger, while encouraging people to include millets into their lifestyles. It serves as an inspirational way of spreading knowledge of millets' benefits.

Falu is a Grammy Award-winning musician known for blending contemporary innovation with classical Indian vocal talent. She has collaborated with world-class artists such as A. R. Rahman, Ricky Martin, Yo-Yo Ma, Wyclef Jean and Philip Glass - among many others - making history when she won one in 2022 for her children's album. A Carnegie Hall performer since 1997, Falu also holds membership to the American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

It is Modern

Millets' potential as a drought-resistant crop has attracted renewed attention in light of rising concerns about climate change. Their rich nutrient profile makes millets an effective remedy against both undernutrition (vitamin and mineral deficiencies) and overnutrition (obesity and lifestyle diseases), but for mass consumption to resume around the globe will require coordinated efforts by governments, food companies, farmers, consumers and regulators - creating demand through mass consumption will require collective effort from them all.

The International Year of Millet provides an ideal opportunity to bring attention to its benefits - such as those found in sorghum, pearl millet (bajra), finger millet, senate grass, barnyard millet and foxtail millet - and their role in sustainable agriculture and meeting some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As populations increase globally, so too must demand for these diverse crops increase accordingly.

Millets offer many advantages over their grain-based counterparts such as rice and wheat in terms of climate resilience and drought resistance, growing well in various soil conditions with reduced water use required for cultivation. Gluten-free millets make a nutritious addition to anyone's diet - they are sustainable as well.

Falguni Shah's song 'Abundance in Millets', inspired by PM Modi's proposal to declare 2023 the International Year of Millets, has earned her widespread acclaim for blending her signature modern inventive style with an incredible Indian classical voice. Shah has performed at Carnegie Hall alongside A. R. Rahman, Yo-Yo Ma, Ricky Martin and Wyclef Jean; receiving multiple awards and accolades including Grammy nomination in Best Global Music Performance category and performing at White House events for former President Obama and First Lady Michelle both of whom she performed while performing at White House events featuring former President Obama and First Lady Michelle in concert performances!
